Have a little compassion….

In your life. When someone angers you, slow down.

It is so easy to get hyped up on your feelings, your way, your belief.

But listen to what Proverbs 14 says,

He who is slow to anger has great understanding, But he who is quick-tempered exalts folly.

I think that sometimes we don’t think of our quick tongues or attitudes being antithetical to compassion, but they are, because in that moment, you’re first, no one else’s feelings or past or issues matter. And sometimes just taking that step back and giving someone a chance, to be human, or make a mistake, or just disagree with you, is an act of compassion.

Now I need to turn around and take a long glance in the mirror (as always). :)

Have a little Compassion…

A lot of people are hurting right now. A lot of people are losing their jobs and wondering if and when homes are going to be foreclosed on. I overheard a very casual conversation last weekend in which a guy was telling a friend that at least his house wouldn’t be foreclosed on until August. It is becoming an everyday part of life.

So today. have a little Compassion for your neighborhood co-op, or the food pantry at your church. Also, don’t forget that there are children everywhere that are without. If you would like to sponsor or a child or just give a little bit, don’t forget to check out Compassion. They have a fund especially set up for children without sponsors!

Anne Jackson stole my blog topic

Hehe.

Not really.

Yesterday I read her Ted Haggard post and I was like well I guess my post is gone. If only I had posted earlier. Argh!
:) I am only joking.

I just wanted to go ahead and write what I noted, because like Anne, Ted’s story saddened me on Wednesday. I saw his wife and children with him on Oprah and their support was amazing. But what struck me most about the whole conversation, what knocked the breath out of me because I have been a part of a pastor’s family my whole life, and at that a pastor who had problems that were kept hidden, was when he said “I kept trying to work it out in spiritual circles and I couldn’t.”

He admits that he would start to share, only to be shut down.

How can we as Christians ”shut down” and then say we believe everyone to be worthy of salvation? How can we work so hard to keep some out and some in?

I am faced now with my own prejudices and the dark glasses I have worn in regards to some problems and not others. But to paraphrase another thing Ted said, never have I realized more how in need we all are for God’s redemption and salvation. And he does accept anyone. And on top of that, he loves us.

So I’m not upset that a few people have the same blog topic. For once I’m excited. I think it is a message we all need to be waking up to.

So today, have a little (spritual) compassion.

Have a little Compassion…

Ay ay ay! i am very behind at work today, so let me be honest and say that I have not prepared ahead my Compassion post. So, today give a smile, give a hug. Show a little compassion to someone who does, or maybe even doesn’t need it. I think we can all agree we have been underserving at times, but still given so much!

Peace begins with a smile.  ~Mother Teresa

Have a little Compassion…

It has been a while but I would really like to begin giving Fridays back to solely giving compassion (whether it is this group or another). Whether your days be filled with students (like mine), mad dashes to meetings, customers, twittering or just chillaxing, it is so important to take time for others. Whether it be in small momentary ways, or commitments like this. So I pray that you will consider doing some such thing (in the name of our Savior who has shown us so much Compassion).  The children featured on this site have always been waiting 6 months or longer for a sponsor. These are children who have been approved and are in need, but have waited and waited. If you do not have the money to commit, think about making a one time donation to their Children without sponsors fund. You can do so here.

Have a little Compassion…

I think this time of year, when emotions are heightened, people probably feeling more stressed or painfully aware than ever, it might be nice to have a LOT of compassion. So, there are a million things going on around the world right now. Some of them great things, some of them horrific tragedies. So, I know that if you have a big heart, you have a lot to choose from. But I will still share this short story with you…

Burma, also known as Myanmar, has had little peace. Period. Not in the last few months, not even in the last few years… Not in a long time. They are ruled by a militant authority called the State Peace and Development. Every question uttered or cry for a better government has been met with attacks, murder, rape, or imprisonment by this establishment. I have a student who is from Burma, and she does not like to talk about it. Her family was granted refugee status to the U.S. But what if they hadn’t been? She is one of the sweetest and brightest young women I know. So, between right now and Monday is a chance to contribute to the fight for BASIC human rights in Burma for a friend or loved one as a gift. You can give anytime, but if you do so by Monday they will send a card to your friend or family member to thank them for the gift you give in their name. I cannot imagine or explain what it must feel like to live in a state like that. To give or learn more go to US Campaign for Burma.

If you would like to sponsor a child from Compassion, please click here. There are hundreds of children waiting for someone like you to take a chance on them, so they might have more opportunity for growth- physically and mentally, AS WELL as a chance to here about the wonderful love of Jesus. Isn’t that amazing? I am at a loss for words when I think about the magnitude of the opportunities we are given to share.

And it’s not just online, it’s not just around the world. Heck, if you really know you can’t commit to this, buy someone a cup of a coffee. A friend, or the guy standing behind you in line that looks like they are having a bad day.

If you are having a bad day: here is my virtual cup to you! I know how it feels. With some help I am getting those little demons out.

You had a little Compassion….

Guess what? Today I am going to give you 2 ways to have a little compassion. What?! 2 ways. I know, that pretty much makes it the best day ever for Have a little Compassion. :)

The 50,000 Pairs in 50 Days Challenge

1. Soles 4 Souls. Just $5 buys 2 pairs of shoes for someone who goes without any everyday! This is a big challenge and the days are counting down. Think of how much it would mean to you if you lived without shoes, and someone travelled just to bring them to you. Let’s be honest, the economy might be bad, but most of us can afford $5. IF you can, please go here.

2. Here is Ajit from Bangladesh, made known to us by Compassion International. Ajit might be looking for you today…I don’t know. Please pray about making the difference in Ajit’s life.
