This inauguration makes me hungry!

It is great to see people in high spirits. Whether or not you voted for Obama, this is a blessed day when you see that there is opportunity for a person who 40 years ago would have had very little. People areĀ elated and I just heard some women singing about crawfish on the bayou. Yum. With some corn and potatoes (and cajun spices of course!), I could totally go for that right now!

And yes, I stood outside last night with my husband and good friend and talked about the significance in history in general, that the U.S. is able to have such a smooth transition of power. But you cannot deny that there is a little something extra special this time, you cannot deny that whether or not you agree with the politics of Obama or not, there are some people hanging out today that would never hang out. So maybe it is time to sit and listen to each other’s stories. Maybe this should not even be a day of politics, but a day to sit and remember how far we have come as individuals, and realize all that others are doing and feeling.

Yes, I guess we can.

  • Andrea-
Hi! This is Jen’s cousin; she told me of your site. I have been so blessed by it and have been inspired to start my own blog.
I totally agree with your sentiment above; we have come a long way. I have been so elated to think of how the concept of equality is slowly being birthed into America. What a great testament to the human resolve, and we lived to see it!
Some particularly great thoughts Barack shared in his inaugural speech today: tolerance of religions, races, creeds (Christians, Muslims, Hindus), compassion (helping those who are the least), and peace (extending a hand but waiting for others to “unclench fists”).
It would be great to hear back from you.

Hey girl! Oh my gosh, thank you so much. I hope that you are doing well. Maybe we can all get together again on some kind of less stressful vacation in the future, lol!
I agree too, that it is a slow birth but now some are actually realizing it. While I don’t always agree with Rick Warren I think what he said Monday is true, Dr. King’s dream is not fulfilled. He desired for all to be equal. But each step we take will be defining in these days following one of the biggest steps we have seen in this century!
It is truly nice to have a leader that believes in these things.
I will definitely check out your blog, and we should keep in touch!

  • I think this blog speaks so much deeper than a call to action. It’s a call to non-action. Just sitting still and listening to where other people have been. How beautiful is that? Andrea, your visions, thoughts, and perspective NEVER cease to amaze me.

I really am a lucky man. Wow.
