On MLK Day, a question…

To you, what is the difference between justice and charity? Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. worked for a specific call to justice that he had. I believe that we as a body of believers are called to justice as well. How and why is this different than charity? I know what I think but I want to know what you think. If you really want to know what I think, just ask. Or peruse around….lol.

for me, justice = charity with a way out.
I like what Adam just said and speaks to my thought.
Justice is about fighting for something. Charity doesn’t necessarily include this action.
Amen and Amen. I like what Ghandi dreamed of…an army of peacemakers. You still have to fight, just not in the way you may think.
It depends how the two are defined for me. In old school Bibles, they didn’t use the word love in 1 Cor. 13 (Sarah’s G-pa just read it at our wedding with his Gideon Bible). Instead the used the word charity. The word charity means something totally different today. A hand out. A pity gift. It used to mean sacrifice and selflessness.
I think justice is about getting what one deserves. Then comes the argument about how’s opinion you follow about what each person or people deserve(s).
I really like how social work is talking more about equity now than equality. It’s not giving every person the same amount of resources, it’s about bringing them all to the same place. Such an inspiring idea for so many reasons.
Good post lady, as usual.
